What is 3D printing?

New technology to manufacture your parts – faster

3D printing or additive manufacturing allows for the creation of objects with precise shapes. These are built layer by layer by depositing material which is in contrast to traditional manufacturing that often requires machining or other techniques to remove surplus material.

Speed

3D printing allows rapid prototyping, without the long wait for a finished mould. You can design, manufacture, and test a part in a short period of time – and even make different variations for multiple tests.

Cost icon

Cost

3D printing offers cost-effective pricing for prototypes and small to mid-production runs. Traditional technologies, such as injection moulding, need large investment and start-up costs, which can stop a project before it’s really begun.

Customisation icon

Customisation

As 3D printing allows full freedom in design, without the need for costly moulds in injection moulding, designers and engineers can create fully customisable and unique parts for their customers. 3D printing presents an endless amount of possibilities.

3D printing has been embraced in industries such as the medical and dental fields. In fact, custom parts such as prosthetics and dental retainers are made with 3D printing.

Sustainability

Based in the UK, your parts won’t need to be outsourced to large factories – This means your products will have a smaller carbon footprint because your parts aren’t shipped across the globe.

3D printing is additive manufacturing so it produces less waste material – we use the HP 5200 3D printer, and any waste can be recycled for the next print.

Complex parts

Sometimes the devil is in the details, and this can be lost with injection moulding. Since 3D printing is based on a digital design, the level of detail can be as simple or as intricate as you like.

So what will the parts be made of?

Our HP printer uses Nylon Pa12, which is a robust powder-based thermoplastic perfect for producing strong, functional, and low-cost parts.

What about the printers?

We currently use our HP 5200 as our main printer, but we’ll soon add another to our services.
